Ahly overcame a spirited Modern Future FC to lift the Egyptian Super Cup for the 14th time on Thursday, prevailing 4-2 in a thrilling extra-time encounter in Abu Dhabi.

Mahmoud "Kahraba" Abdel-Moneim headed the opener after 13 minutes and Hussein El Shahat's strike in the 34th doubled the seal in what it seemed an easy affair for the Cairo giants, but second-half substitutes Omar El-Said and Mohamed Mahmoud pulled Modern Future level late in the second half.

The Red Devils, however, refused to be denied, with substitute Anthony Modeste netting a decisive header in the 114th minute before Karim Fouad rounded off the scoring two minutes later.

The opening exchanges were tense, with Modern Future threatening first through Abdelkabir El Ouadi.

Ahly responded swiftly, Kahraba nodding Ali Maaloul's corner past the outstretched arms of Mahmoud Abdel-Rehim. El Shahat capitalized on Kahraba's smart lay-off to double the advantage, leaving Modern Future with an uphill battle.

Koller opted for attacking reinforcements in the second half, introducing Modeste, Fouad, and Amr El-Sulaya. Ahly remained dominant, but El-Said punished a mistake from goalkeeper Mostafa Shobeir to get one back for Modern Future, and Mahmoud's clinical strike from outside the box sent the game to extra time.

Fueled by the desire to defend their title, Ahly maintained the pressure in extra time. Modeste finally broke the deadlock, powerfully heading home Maaloul's cross before Fouad's composed finish put the result beyond doubt.

This triumph marks Ahly's third consecutive Super Cup win and concludes a remarkable year for the Red Devils, who have now collected five trophies in 2023.
